Beatitudes

Eight sacred declarations

The Beatitudes are the eight blessings pronounced by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew.

Each begins "Blessed are..." and names a group—the poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful, the peacemakers—who will receive divine reward.

They form a cornerstone of Christian ethical teaching: The pastor's sermon focused on the Beatitudes. (Lowercase beatitudes means states of blessedness generally.)
