Bastion
Projecting fortress section
A bastion is a projecting part of a fortification, designed to allow defenders to fire along the walls.
More commonly now, bastion refers to any stronghold or defender of something: The university remained a bastion of free speech.
A bastion of something is a place where it persists or flourishes: a bastion of conservatism, the last bastion of the old guard.
