Ba'athist

Arab socialist partisan

A Ba'athist is an adherent of Ba'athism, the Arab nationalist political ideology that combined socialism, pan-Arabism, and secularism.

The Ba'ath Party held power in Iraq under Saddam Hussein and continues to rule Syria under the Assad family.

The term often carries connotations of authoritarian single-party rule: The regime purged suspected Ba'athists after the invasion.
