Ameritech

Former regional carrier

Ameritech was one of the seven Regional Bell Operating Companies created when AT&T was broken up in 1984, providing telephone service across the Midwest—Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

SBC Communications acquired Ameritech in 1999, eventually rebranding under AT&T.

The name persists in older signage and nostalgia for the pre-consolidation telecom era.
