grisette

Parisian working-class girl

A grisette is a young French working-class woman, especially one employed in a trade like dressmaking or millinery in 18th- and 19th-century Paris.

The term carried connotations of flirtatiousness and sexual availability, appearing frequently in French literature as a stock character—the charming shop girl who might become an artist's mistress.

Grisette also names a style of light, tart Belgian wheat beer, and a species of edible mushroom.
