8mm camera
Vintage home movies
An 8mm camera is a motion picture camera that uses 8-millimeter-wide film, popular for home movies from the 1930s through the 1980s.
The format was affordable and portable compared to professional equipment, making it the standard for amateur filmmakers capturing family vacations, birthdays, and everyday life.
Super 8, introduced in 1965, improved the format with easier loading and better image quality.
Digital video largely displaced 8mm by the 1990s, though the format retains nostalgic appeal for its characteristic grainy, warm aesthetic.
