zipties

Ratcheting plastic straps

Zipties are narrow plastic strips with a ratcheting mechanism that locks when the pointed end is threaded through a small housing at the other end.

They cinch tight and don't release without cutting.

Originally for bundling electrical cables, they now secure everything from garbage bags to protest detainees: The cops used zipties as makeshift handcuffs.

Also called cable ties or zip ties.
