work detail
Prisoners' task group
A work detail is a group of people assigned to perform a specific task, especially manual labor.
The term comes from military usage, where soldiers are detailed—that is, assigned—to particular duties: a cleanup detail, a burial detail.
In prison contexts, work details are groups of inmates performing labor: He was assigned to the road work detail.
