KP duty
Peeling potatoes, soldier
KP duty is kitchen patrol—the military assignment of helping with food preparation, serving, and cleanup.
KP was traditionally given to enlisted personnel as routine work or minor punishment.
The term extends casually to any kitchen chores: I got stuck on KP duty after Thanksgiving dinner.
