wisdom tooth

Third molar erupts

A wisdom tooth is one of four molars that typically emerge in the late teens or early twenties, at the back corners of the mouth.

They're called wisdom teeth because they appear at an age associated with maturity.

Often there isn't room for them, causing pain or crowding that requires extraction: I'm getting my wisdom teeth out next week.
