wideout
Flanker on offense
A wideout is a wide receiver in American football—an offensive player who lines up near the sideline and runs pass routes to catch the ball.
The term is journalistic shorthand, common in sports coverage: The team drafted two wideouts in the first round.
Also called a split end or flanker depending on alignment.
