watersnake

Slithering pond dweller

A watersnake is any of various nonvenomous snakes that live in or near freshwater—streams, ponds, marshes.

They're often mistaken for venomous water moccasins but are generally harmless, feeding on fish and amphibians.

Also spelled as two words: water snake.
