warp core
Fictional reactor type
A warp core is the main power source in Star Trek spacecraft, generating energy through matter-antimatter reactions to enable faster-than-light travel.
The term has escaped its fictional origins to describe any central power system in science fiction contexts, or humorously, the essential component that makes something function: The coffee machine is the office's warp core.
