warchest

Reserved political money

A warchest is a reserve of money set aside for a specific campaign or contest.

Originally military funds for actual war, the term now appears almost exclusively in politics and business: The senator's warchest topped twenty million dollars.

Companies build warchests for acquisitions or to weather downturns.

The spelling varies: war chest, warchest.
