war minister
Military cabinet member
A war minister is a government official responsible for military affairs and defense policy, typically heading a ministry or department of war.
The title was common in European governments through the early twentieth century: The war minister addressed parliament on troop deployments.
Most countries have since renamed the position to defense minister or secretary of defense, reflecting a shift in framing from offensive to defensive postures.
