volcanic region

Magma-active territory

A volcanic region is an area characterized by volcanic activity—active volcanoes, lava flows, hot springs, geysers, or geothermal features.

Such regions often form along tectonic plate boundaries or over hotspots in the Earth's mantle: Iceland sits in one of the most volcanic regions on Earth.

The term applies both to currently active zones and areas shaped by past eruptions.
