volcanic mountains
Fire-spewing summits
Volcanic mountains are mountains formed by volcanic activity—the accumulation of lava, ash, and other materials ejected from the earth.
They include active volcanoes that still erupt, dormant ones that might, and extinct ones that won't.
Mount Fuji, Mount St.
Helens, and the Hawaiian islands are volcanic mountains.
The term distinguishes them from mountains formed by tectonic folding or erosion.
