voice-hearing
Hearing unseen speakers
Voice-hearing is the experience of perceiving voices without an external source—what psychiatry calls auditory hallucinations.
The term is preferred by many who have these experiences because it's descriptive rather than pathologizing.
Voice-hearing occurs in schizophrenia and other conditions, but also in people without mental illness: The voice-hearing community has challenged assumptions about what these experiences mean.
