vocal fry
Low gravelly tone
Vocal fry is a low, creaky quality in the voice produced when the vocal cords vibrate slowly and irregularly, creating a rattling or sputtering sound at the bottom of the speaker's range.
It became a topic of discussion when critics noticed it as a speech pattern among young women, though speakers of all types use it.
Her vocal fry made every sentence trail off into a crackle.
