upspeak
Questioning tone habit
Upspeak is a speech pattern in which declarative statements end with rising intonation, making them sound like questions.
It's particularly associated with younger speakers and certain regional dialects, notably in California and Australia.
While sometimes criticized as conveying uncertainty or seeking approval, upspeak serves various conversational functions, including checking that a listener is following along or signaling that more information is coming.
So I went to the store? And they were completely out of milk?
