vibraharp

Jazz bar instrument

A vibraharp is a percussion instrument similar to a xylophone but with metal bars and motor-driven rotating disks in the resonator tubes that create a pulsating vibrato effect.

The instrument is played with soft mallets and features a sustain pedal.

Common in jazz: The vibraharp solo shimmered over the rhythm section.

Also called vibraphone or vibes.
