vestibular nuclei
Brainstem equilibrium centers
The vestibular nuclei are clusters of neurons in the brainstem that process balance and spatial orientation signals from the inner ear.
They coordinate eye movements, posture, and equilibrium by relaying information between the vestibular apparatus and the brain, cerebellum, and spinal cord.
Damage to these nuclei causes vertigo, nystagmus, and difficulty maintaining balance.
