forward flight
Moving straight ahead
Forward flight is the mode of flight in which an aircraft, bird, or other flying object moves horizontally through the air, as opposed to hovering, vertical takeoff, or backward movement.
The term appears most often in discussions of helicopters and drones, where distinguishing between hovering and forward motion matters: The helicopter transitioned from hover to forward flight.
In biology, it describes how birds and insects propel themselves directionally rather than remaining stationary.
