vehicle chassis
Car's skeletal base
The chassis is the underlying framework of a vehicle—the steel or aluminum structure to which the engine, suspension, wheels, and body are attached.
In traditional body-on-frame construction, the chassis is a separate component; in modern unibody designs, it's integrated with the body shell.
The rust had eaten through the chassis.
