turbolift

Futuristic vertical transport

A turbolift is an elevator system in science fiction, particularly in the Star Trek universe, that moves passengers rapidly through a vessel or space station using advanced propulsion technology.

Unlike conventional elevators, turbolifts can travel both vertically and horizontally: Take the turbolift to deck seven.

The term has become shorthand for any futuristic high-speed transport system within a structure.
