tuque

Canadian winter hat

A tuque is a knitted cap, typically close-fitting and often with a folded brim—the standard Canadian term for what Americans call a beanie.

The word is French Canadian: Pull on your tuque, it's freezing out there.

Sometimes spelled toque, though that spelling more often refers to a chef's tall hat.
