tunnel boring
Subterranean passage creation
Tunnel boring is the process of excavating tunnels through soil or rock, typically using specialized machinery rather than drilling and blasting.
A tunnel boring machine, or TBM, cuts a circular cross-section while simultaneously installing tunnel lining segments behind it.
The technique is used for subways, utility conduits, and transportation tunnels.
The tunnel boring phase took three years to complete.
