ground support
Help from below
Ground support is assistance provided from the earth's surface to aircraft or spacecraft operations—fuel trucks, maintenance crews, air traffic control, and the equipment needed to keep flights running.
In military contexts, ground support (or close air support) means aircraft attacking enemy positions to assist troops on the ground.
The term extends to any behind-the-scenes infrastructure enabling a primary operation: The tour's ground support crew arrived a day early to set up the stage.
