try out
Give something a whirl
Try out means to test something to see if it works or suits: I'm trying out a new recipe tonight.
It often implies experimentation without commitment—you try out a product before buying, or try out an idea before adopting it.
In competitive contexts, to try out is to audition or compete for a position: She's trying out for the volleyball team.
The noun tryout is the audition itself.
