trigger points
Tender muscle spots
Trigger points are specific spots in muscle tissue that are tender to the touch and can cause pain elsewhere in the body when pressed.
In medical contexts, they're associated with myofascial pain syndrome: The massage therapist worked on the trigger points in my shoulders.
The term sometimes extends metaphorically to anything that sets off a predictable reaction.
