trichloroethylene

Chlorinated cleaning compound

Trichloroethylene is a volatile industrial solvent used for degreasing metal parts and in dry cleaning.

The colorless liquid evaporates quickly and has a sweet, chloroform-like odor.

Once used as an anesthetic and in food processing, it has been largely phased out of consumer products due to health concerns—prolonged exposure damages the liver, kidneys, and nervous system.

Often abbreviated TCE.
