tribunate
Plebeian representative position
The tribunate is the office or term of a tribune, a Roman official who represented the common people and could veto actions of the Senate.
The word appears mainly in historical discussions of ancient Rome: The tribunate gave plebeians a voice against patrician power.
By extension, it can describe any office dedicated to protecting popular interests.
