war tribunals
Military crime trials
War tribunals are courts established to try individuals for crimes committed during wartime—typically war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide.
The Nuremberg trials after World War II set the precedent for holding military and political leaders accountable under international law.
The war tribunal convicted the general of ordering civilian massacres.
Such tribunals may be international, as with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, or military courts convened by victorious nations.
