traumatized
Psychologically marked forever
Traumatized describes someone who has experienced psychological damage from a deeply distressing event.
A person traumatized by war, abuse, or disaster may suffer lasting effects: nightmares, anxiety, emotional numbness.
The word extends to lesser upsets, often hyperbolically: I'm still traumatized by that job interview.
The spelling traumatised is British.
