trail marker
Hiker's guiding sign
A trail marker is a sign, symbol, or physical object indicating the route of a path through wilderness or backcountry.
Trail markers take many forms: painted blazes on trees, cairns (stacked rocks), wooden posts, or metal signs.
They guide hikers, prevent them from getting lost, and sometimes indicate distance or difficulty: Follow the blue trail markers to the summit.
