trail drive

Herd the longhorns

A trail drive is the movement of a herd of cattle over a long distance, typically to market or new grazing land.

The term evokes the American West of the late 1800s, when cowboys drove thousands of cattle north from Texas along routes like the Chisholm Trail: The trail drive took three months and covered eight hundred miles.
