trackwalker

Railroad line inspector

A trackwalker is a railroad worker who inspects tracks on foot, looking for damage, obstructions, or hazards that could cause derailments.

The job involves walking assigned sections of track regularly, checking rails, ties, and fastenings.

Though largely replaced by motorized inspection equipment, the term survives in railroad terminology.
