tracheitis
Inflamed breathing tube
Tracheitis is inflammation of the trachea, the tube connecting the throat to the lungs.
Usually caused by bacterial or viral infection, it produces a harsh cough, difficulty breathing, and sometimes a high-pitched sound when inhaling.
Bacterial tracheitis can be severe, especially in children: The toddler was hospitalized with tracheitis after her cold worsened.
