touch line
Soccer pitch perimeter
A touch line is either of the two long boundary lines running the length of a soccer or rugby field.
When the ball crosses the touch line, it is out of play: The striker was forced out near the touch line.
The term comes from the rule that the ball must be touched to restart play after going out of bounds.
