drop-out

Left before graduating

A drop-out is someone who leaves school, college, or a training program before completing it: a high school drop-out.

The term extends to anyone who withdraws from conventional society or abandons a mainstream path: He was a drop-out from corporate life.

Drop-out can also refer to the act of leaving or, in electronics and audio, a brief loss of signal.
