toe clips
Foot retention devices
Toe clips are cages that attach to bicycle pedals, holding the front of the foot in place.
They allow cyclists to pull up on the pedal as well as push down, improving efficiency.
I slid my feet into the toe clips and started pedaling.
Largely replaced by clipless pedals, which despite the name actually clip to special cycling shoes.
