horseshoe nails
Hoof shoe hardware
Horseshoe nails are specialized nails driven through a horseshoe into the hoof wall to secure the shoe.
They're designed with a beveled edge that causes them to curve outward as they're driven, emerging through the side of the hoof where they're clinched flat.
The phrase for want of a nail comes from a proverb about how a missing horseshoe nail leads to cascading disaster.
