timesharing

Concurrent user access

Timesharing is the practice of multiple users or programs sharing a single computer system, taking turns so rapidly that each appears to have dedicated access.

This was revolutionary when computing resources were scarce and expensive.

The term also describes shared ownership of vacation property, where multiple parties buy rights to use it during designated periods: They bought a timesharing arrangement at a beach resort.
