tidal bulge
Moon-pulled water rise
A tidal bulge is the swelling of ocean water on opposite sides of Earth caused by the Moon's gravitational pull.
One bulge forms on the side nearest the Moon (where gravity is strongest), another on the far side (where centrifugal force dominates).
As Earth rotates beneath these bulges, coastal areas experience high and low tides.
