threshing floors
Harvest processing grounds
Threshing floors are flat outdoor surfaces, traditionally of packed earth or stone, where harvested grain was separated from its stalks and husks.
Farmers beat or trampled the grain, then tossed it so wind could carry away the lighter chaff.
The term appears frequently in biblical and historical contexts: They gathered at the threshing floor to winnow the wheat.
