thermal image

Infrared camera output

A thermal image is a visual representation of heat patterns, showing temperature differences across a surface or scene.

Thermal cameras detect infrared radiation invisible to the human eye and translate it into visible colors or shades—typically showing warmer areas as brighter or in reds and yellows, cooler areas in blues or darker tones.

Used in building inspections to find heat leaks, by firefighters to locate people in smoke, and by military for night vision: The thermal image revealed someone hiding in the bushes.
