textile patterns

Cloth surface motifs

Textile patterns are the repeating designs woven, printed, or otherwise applied to fabric.

Classic examples include plaid, paisley, houndstooth, gingham, and herringbone.

Patterns may be geometric, floral, abstract, or figurative.

The term covers both the visual design and the structural arrangement of threads that creates it, as in a twill or jacquard pattern.
