tag team

Ring relay pair

A tag team is a pair of wrestlers who compete together, taking turns in the ring by tagging each other's hand to switch places.

The term extends to any two people who alternate or collaborate on a task: We tag-teamed the night shift, They tag-teamed the presentation.

To tag team is to work this way—trading off so neither person handles everything alone.
