swots

Studious types, pejoratively

Swots is British slang for people who study excessively or with excessive diligence—roughly equivalent to American "nerds" or "grinds." The term carries mild derision: The swots always ruined the curve.

As a verb, to swot is to study hard, often with "up": I need to swot up on chemistry before the exam.
