swot

Cram before exams

Swot is British slang for someone who studies excessively, roughly equivalent to American "nerd" or "grind"—usually mildly disparaging: Don't be such a swot.

As a verb, to swot (often swot up) means to study hard, especially before an exam: I need to swot up on my French before the trip.
